Detail
The weldability of EN AW 6061 is well suited to many industrial and technical applications. Due to its chemical composition and its ability to form a stable microstructure, the alloy shows good resistance to cracking. MIG and TIG welding are the most commonly used processes for this alloy. Weld seams are generally high quality and tend not to distort during welding.
Detail
EN AW 6061 has excellent machinability. The alloy achieves high surface quality and fine finishes, making it ideal for precision parts. Tool wear is moderate, resulting in good tool life. Tool life can be extended by using carbide tooling. Use of lubricants further reduces tool wear; emulsions or synthetic coolants can improve surface finish.
Detail
EN 6061 exhibits good forgeability. Optimal forging temperatures are between 370°C and 530°C and should be maintained to avoid cracking and other defects. After forging, the alloy is commonly solution heat treated followed by artificial aging or finished by anodizing.
Detail
Aluminum is non-magnetic. Even with alloying elements such as magnesium, the alloy remains non-magnetic.
Detail
This aluminum alloy offers excellent corrosion resistance. It forms a stable oxide layer that protects against further corrosion. It is resistant in industrial atmospheres and environments with high salt content. It has moderate resistance to stress corrosion cracking, which can be improved by careful design and processing.
