Detail
EN AW 6060 is generally well weldable. Except for resistance welding, common welding processes can usually be applied, with TIG and MIG welding being the most suitable. Similar to EN AW 5754, this alloy’s magnesium and silicon content increases resistance to cracking during welding. Common filler alloys are typically AlMg5, AlSi and AlMg3.
Detail
The machinability of EN AW 6060 is moderate and depends strongly on the temper. In age-hardened tempers the alloy shows significantly better machining behavior than in the soft-annealed condition. In the soft-annealed state, long, tangled or ribbon-like chips can form more easily, causing entanglement and surface contamination. Chip behavior improves as the material is strengthened.
Detail
EN AW 6060 has very good forgeability. The material is typically formed by closed-die forging. If the recommended temperature range is observed, cracking is almost eliminated. At elevated temperatures the alloy deforms well but has slightly lower strength than some comparable grades, which facilitates forging.
Detail
Aluminium is non-magnetic. The additions of magnesium and silicon do not make the alloy magnetic.
Detail
This aluminium alloy provides excellent corrosion resistance. It performs very well in both industrial and marine (saline) environments, and shows strong resistance to chloride-containing atmospheres and stress corrosion cracking. Its exceptional suitability for all standard surface treatments, including anodizing, makes it attractive for applications requiring functional or decorative surface properties.
