Detail
The weldability of EN AW 2007 is poor compared with other materials. The alloy tends to form cracks in welds, especially with MIG and TIG processes, and is highly sensitive to welding stresses. As a result, welds may not remain durable. For EN AW 2007, alternative joining methods such as bolting or riveting are usually preferred.
Detail
EN AW 2007 has excellent machinability. Its relatively high hardness and strength allow machined parts to achieve very good mechanical properties and clean surfaces. The lead addition promotes formation of easily breakable, short chips, reducing the risk of chip entanglement. High cutting speeds and feeds can be used, and tool wear is very low. With tight tolerances, this alloy is particularly suitable for complex CNC parts such as screws, valves or bolts.
Detail
The alloy has poor forgeability. The copper content increases strength but reduces formability. Because forming is generally difficult, the material is mainly used in machining processes.
Detail
Aluminium is non-magnetic; the copper alloying does not render the material magnetic.
Detail
This aluminium alloy has moderate corrosion resistance. The copper content can make the alloy more susceptible to intergranular and stress-corrosion cracking. It is also vulnerable to seawater and general weathering. Therefore it should only be used where high machinability is required but exposure to aggressive environments is limited.
