Magnesium (Mg) is a light, silvery structural metal valued for its low weight, good machinability and high specific strength.
Pure magnesium is rarely used on its own because it is soft and reactive, so industrial applications rely on alloys with elements such as aluminium, zinc, manganese or rare earths.
These alloys make magnesium attractive for automotive, aerospace and other weight-critical applications where lower mass can improve efficiency.
