CuZn40Pb2 has poor weldability. Due to its composition, several common processes—such as gas welding, TIG (WIG) and MIG welding—are not suitable. If welding cannot be avoided in production, resistance welding is generally the most viable option.

CuZn40Pb2 is among the copper alloys with the best machinability. Machining yields smooth surfaces and favorable chip formation, typically producing short, needle-shaped chips. Specific machining values vary depending on the material's strength condition.

Forging is widely used with CuZn40Pb2. Given its strength characteristics, the alloy is highly formable, allowing production of complex forged parts.

Compared with other copper alloys, CW617N has relatively low corrosion resistance. The high zinc content makes the material more sensitive to water, saline solutions and certain organic liquids. This also leads to so-called "dezincification", a form of corrosion that can occur in contact with specific waters. Other susceptibilities include stress-corrosion cracking, which can be mitigated by appropriate heat treatments.
